It was the perfect day to have a working screen door, and now I have one. John came by early this afternoon and gave me the last of my birthday presents. What a great birthday, to last nearly a month and end with something I needed so badly, at just the right time. It’s been windy this week, and on one of those days I had to put the brick in front of the old screen door to keep it from swinging around and banging. But today was a good day to have the door open all day, and let the fresh air in. Thanks to the new screen door, it was all air and no bugs.

The bugs came later, when I decided it was also a good day to do some weed trimming. I taxed the trimmer a little beyond its capabilities, I think, because its head kept coming off. But it was in an area of the garden where the mower can’t go, so I had no choice but to keep putting the trimmer’s head back on and forging ahead. I taxed my body a little beyond the comfort zone, too, and by the time I’d finished I was tingling all over. And not in a good way.

New screen door.

But a little tingling is a small price to pay for the satisfaction of doing something I should do every day but for some reason seem to end up doing once a month or so. I get the feeling there might be even more satisfaction in doing it a little more often. It’s not like champagne or lobster or key lime pie, things that are good, but better if you don’t have them every day. Well, maybe lobster would be okay every day. What was I talking about again?
