Ah, the weekend. That’s the time you do what you want, right? It’s when you get a break from the hassles and worries of the work week and change your routine. Saturday is the best day, because I can do something different.

Like work.

When I realized how little I’d got done this week, I was stunned. I didn’t even take a vacation this year because there’s so much to do, week after week, and now here I am at the end of this one with nothing to show for it. And you know that I always say I’m going to work on Saturday, but you know I almost never do.

Today was the exception. It’s not as if I had a choice, and I didn’t get everything done that I wanted to, but I did spend as much time working as I normally do on any weekday. Except for this week, of course, when every weekday was like a Saturday, full of good intentions and signifying nothing.

A cloud beyond the trees.

And tomorrow? Same thing, except with football. Maybe I’ll repeat this entry under tomorrow’s date. That’ll save me some time so that I’ll get even more done. Or maybe it’ll give me extra time to slack off.

Stuff

When you’re only scoring two runs a game, it’s going to catch up with you sooner or later. Probably sooner, although last night the Giants ground out a 2-1 win. Today’s effort ended in a 5-2 loss to the Cubs, but with news that help is on the way. The pundits are telling us Barry Bonds won’t make a difference, but a player of that caliber injected into this lineup is going to make everyone better, from top to bottom. The team announced today that he has been cleared to play and will be activated Monday, just in time for the series against the Padres, which will be either the last chance for the Giants to make a run for the title, or the final nail in the coffin.

"All other things being equal, I'm looking for a candidate who didn't mislead us into an unwinnable money-pit of a war, turn a hard-won national surplus into a colossal deficit, or turn over the defense of the constitution to those who believe in the second amendment but not the first."
