This was not going to be the day that I drove to Ace Hardware to pick up an extension cord for my treadmill. I mean, this was going to be the day, until I woke up this morning with the worst headache I’ve had in years. (It was actually the same headache I went to bed with last night, made no better by a few hours of sleep.) So I canceled anything strenuous, drugged myself with the pain killer in my medicine cabinet with the most recent expiration date (last August), and melted into the recliner, hoping only to feel better some time.

Obviously, I do feel a little better tonight, because here I am, telling you about it. I stirred myself enough to file a tax extension (easiest thing in the world, thanks to Turbo Tax) two days before the deadline. I did a little laundry (left over from when I forgot to take it out of the washer and put it in the dryer yesterday). And— well, that’s about it, I guess. I’m still sluggish, thanks to the old drugs I’m still taking, but I no longer feel as if someone were bashing me in the forehead with the Oxford English Dictionary. The abridged version, of course.

This wasn’t a day I was in any condition to be moving furniture, but last night, almost as soon as I’d settled in with the new treadmill, I regretted where I’d put it. In its current location, it blocks my view of the TV both from my desk (where, to be honest, I rarely sit) and from the kitchen (where I do, in fact, spend a lot of time). If it were on the other side of the room, I wouldn’t have this problem, but to do that I’d have to move both the couch and the bookcase. And then I’d have to move the treadmill, which is the most intimidating task of the three. So I’m pretty sure it will stay where it is for a long, long time. I can still see part of the TV from the kitchen if I crane my neck and squint, so all is not lost.
