The fact that I don’t ordinarily schedule any specific tasks for Wednesday doesn’t mean that there aren’t things I want to get done. What it does mean is that I’m more easily thrown off track. What it means is that if the Boss repeatedly interrupts me to, say, ask me to look up a phone number, it’s likely to keep me away from whatever I was doing for longer than it actually takes me to look up the number. And what, he’s never heard of Information?
Okay, so I was a little off my game today and didn’t cope as well as I might have. Last night wasn’t one of my better nights for sleeping, and I found myself up at my desk at 1:30 in the morning, working on the payroll that I thought I was going do this morning. I’d planned to get up early and finish it, but not that early. It just wasn’t working for me, leaving it unfinished like that.
It could have turned out to be a good thing, getting the payroll done in the middle of the night, if I’d been able to get anything else done in the middle of the day. I have to admit that some of the interruptions were necessary, and we ended up sending out invoices for about three hundred thousand dollars, enough to pay quite a few bills (and salaries) down the road when we collect the money. |
