This had the makings of another pretty lousy day. I woke up to the sound of rain beating against the roof and the walls and the windows. It was cold and it was dark and the word “lousy” wormed its way into my head and wouldn’t let go. It could have been just that lousy, but it turned out to be not so bad. Still colder than I’d like it, but what am I going to do, move to LA? No way, and it gets cold there sometimes, too. I’ve heard.
But the day was saved. I had a loverly couple of hours over coffee with Suzanne, during which many nice things were discussed. A few sucky things came up, but we dismissed them. We laugh in the face of sucky things, when there are so many nice things to discuss.
Then, due to the unforeseeable consequences of unpredictable events, I had a chance to spend a few minutes talking to Kylie. You cannot hear “Uncle Mike, guess what” and not feel better about life in general and today in particular. You can’t have a lousy day when Kylie is part of it. I pretty much believe that with every bit of belief I can muster.
To top off what had the makings of a lousy day and then turned into something loverly, I got a chance to see Aiden for a few minutes this afternoon. I think he saw me, too, because he spoke to me, but the whole time I was in his presence he never stopped moving. He was unpacking his backpack with artwork from school, and then he was on to something else, narrating the whole time. From the sparkle in his eyes and the breathless narration, it’s my opinion he also had a loverly day. |
