It's a day like this that helps me remember why I'm going on vacation. In one week! Next Friday, gone. For nine glorious days, in the ocean where the Boss can't find me. I guess that's why he's trying to wring me dry now, while I'm still here. He knows he's on his own for a week after I give him four more days of this.
I'm not sure I'll make it through four more days like this one, not without telling him to take a hike. I came as close today as I have since the bad old days when he thought he could lay me off without pay for a week and I'd still be a contented drone. I cured him of that, and we'll get past this as well. |

Apparently I have some power over the weather after all. I'm just not sure what I did to make it hail today. It was either my complaining about the cold yesterday, which made today even colder, or bragging that we might get through the winter without any ice or snow. Whatever the reason - and I'm sure it's my fault - it hailed today. Tiny white pellets of ice pelted my fragile little garden and bounced off my paving stones.
It only lasted about ten minutes, but it was quite a show. It's a show I'd gladly do without, though. And one day after saying I wouldn't turn on the furnace, I kicked the thermostat up to 70ºF for a little while today. That's the only way I could make it warm enough to take my morning shower. In this big, drafty house with its high ceilings, the only place that really warms up when the furnace is on is the bathroom. Thank goodness. |

The little boys had their plans changed by the weather. Instead of parading through the icy streets the way we used to back in the safe old days, they got to go to the mall and hold up the merchants for sweets and other treasures. Then we all met back at Suzanne and John's, because I insisted on taking as many photos as they'd stand still for.
It turns out they don't stand still much at all, but I did get these shots and a few more on this page. |
The Hulk (aka D.J.) without the mask. Not quite as scary, but a lot cuter. |
If you don't think that made a lousy day a thousand percent better for me, you haven't been paying attention. |
